Research

As part of Emzor Pharma's dedication to the current and future needs of customers, the company operates a well-equipped laboratory. Staffed by highly qualified scientists drawn from various disciplines, the lab is outfitted with equipment such as spectrophotometers, polarimeters, viscometers, orbital shakers, table top Silverson Mixer/Homogeniser, Cone blenders, Compression machines, and more. The research and development team collaborates widely with other research and higher educational institutions.

The unit engages in a variety of research including new product design as well as review of existing formulations.

Research:

Currently the R&D unit is involved in new product design/development and review of existing formulations with a view to improving product acceptability and aesthetics.

The department in conjunction with some research institutes is involved in the search for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API's).

Staffs of the unit are drawn from different disciplines, both graduate and post graduate, in pharmacy, chemistry (pure and applied) and biochemistry.

Currently, the majority of our products are in the OTC range, but the trend is gradually shifting to generic ethicals.

Product & Process Design Unit:

This unit is equipped with modern facilities to assist the scientists in their quest for new formulations and reviewing existing formulae. Our focus is to continuously improve quality of the products in line with desired values of all stakeholders.

A miniature production unit fully equipped with small scale versions of various production equipment including Granulators, Cone Blenders, Compression Machines, Homogenisers, Vortex Mixers and Colloid Mills. The emphases of this unit are to fashion out best processes for producing new formulations and constantly improve on existing processes. Attached to this unit is an engineering unit and other service support systems for regular maintenance of R & D facilities.

R & D Library:

Attached to the R&D unit is a fully equipped library with computers for quick information retrieval. The library subscribes to a number of current journals of pharmacy, chemistry, engineering, etc. The library has a rich collection of monographs and books on varied subjects. Various databases including Medline are available.

Research Collaboration:

The Research and Development Department collaborates with other research units in higher institutions of learning within and outside the country in the search for Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (API’s).

The current interest in this line is to isolate and fully characterize active constituents of many known traditional remedies for ailments such as malaria, dermatitis, hypertension, etc.
