World Malaria Day 2026 presented a defining opportunity for Emzor to move beyond advocacy and demonstrate structured, on-the-ground impact in line with the global theme, “Driven to End Malaria: Now We Can. Now We Must.” The company’s activities were deliberately designed to integrate awareness creation and direct healthcare delivery into a unified response which reflect a results-driven approach to malaria control.
The day began with a coordinated Awareness Walk, bringing together staff, healthcare professionals, partners, volunteers, and community members in a visible show of commitment to malaria prevention and control. Despite significant global progress, malaria remains one of the most pressing public health challenges in sub-Saharan Africa, with Nigeria bearing the heaviest global burden. According to the World Health Organization, Nigeria accounts for approximately 27% of global malaria cases and nearly one in three malaria-related deaths. With children under five being disproportionately affected, Emzor has stated that access to effective, child-friendly treatment is not just a medical necessity, but a moral imperative.
Despite early morning rainfall, participation remained undaunted. The persistence of the walk under challenging weather conditions became a powerful symbol of resilience and urgency. This reinforces the message that malaria does not pause for convenience, and neither should the response to it. Throughout the walk, key messages on early diagnosis, effective treatment, and preventive practices were actively communicated, extending the reach of malaria awareness beyond traditional channels and into the public space.
As the rain subsided, activities transitioned seamlessly to a medical outreach held at Emzor Pharmacy and Stores. The outreach was carefully structured to ensure both efficiency and participant comfort. Canopies were installed to create a secure and organized environment where attendees could be seated and attended to systematically. This setup enabled a smooth flow of participants while maintaining a professional standard of care delivery.
The medical outreach provided free access to essential health services, including malaria testing, Hepatitis B screening, blood pressure measurement, and general medical consultations. Each service point was managed by trained healthcare personnel, ensuring accuracy, professionalism, and patient-centered care. The initiative addressed a critical gap in access to basic health screenings, particularly for individuals who may not routinely engage with formal healthcare systems.
A notable outcome of the outreach was the level of first-time engagement. Many participants underwent malaria testing for the first time, gaining immediate insight into their health status and the importance of early detection. Others were able to assess previously unknown risk factors, such as elevated blood pressure levels. This shows the broader value of integrated health screenings. Beyond diagnosis, the consultations also provided an opportunity for health education, thereby equipping individuals with practical knowledge on prevention, treatment adherence, and when to seek medical care.
In parallel with service delivery, Emzor reinforced its strategic positioning through the release of its World Malaria Day press statement, deliberately aligning advocacy with on-ground impact. The statement reaffirmed the company’s commitment to advancing malaria control through sustained innovation, expanded access to quality medicines, and stronger collaboration across the healthcare ecosystem. It emphasized that even though progress has been made, malaria elimination requires consistent, coordinated, and scalable interventions supported by both public and private sector stakeholders.
Importantly, Emzor called for increased investment in local pharmaceutical manufacturing, particularly in Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients (APIs), as a critical step toward ensuring medicine security and reducing reliance on imports. The statement also highlighted the urgent need to prioritize vulnerable populations by expanding access to child-friendly treatments and preventive therapies for pregnant women. This includes the continued availability of dispersible antimalarial formulations designed to improve ease of administration, dosing accuracy, and treatment adherence among young children, as well as preventive therapies that support maternal health during pregnancy.
The integration of these elements from public awareness to clinical service delivery demonstrates a comprehensive model for tackling malaria. Rather than operating in silos, Emzor’s approach aligns field-level engagement with broader health system priorities, ensuring that impact is both immediate and sustainable.
As the global health community continues to push toward malaria elimination targets, the pathway has been defined. The solutions are available.
